Many organizations are required by Federal and State law to provide Material Safety Data Sheets
to employees at their location of work. These "sheets" contain information about
chemicals and other contents of materials that
employees use that may have an impact on their health. This system scans in these sheets supplied by the vendors and stores them in pdf
format on a server. Keywords and where these materials are used are attached to these MSDS sheets as they are stored. Then throughout the
facility any employee using a standard web browser can retrieve these MSDS sheets on demand. |

| Fire Inspection |
How do you manage a large group of Fire Extinguishers? What if you had 2000 of them? Our solution
was to use off the shelf components, write software and use some pre packaged software to deploy a custom built solution. We used
Microsoft SQL server to store the database and then used Compaq/HP hand held PDA's. The PDA's downloaded automatically from the SQL server the devices that
required inspection (both type and frequency), emailed the
responsible person that a "route" needed to be inspected. Once the inspections were done via
the handheld which has a bar code scanner attached the PDAs are returned to their cradle. The inspector just walks up to the unit scans its tag and the PDA automatically displays
the inspection required and any additional actions needed. The inspector notes the actions on the screen with simple check marks and when the PDA is returned to it cradle the results are
automatically uploaded to the SQL server. The results can be viewed via several web pages. This solution contained several major pieces: SQL server,
custom software for the PDA's, custom software to link the local databases to the SQL database, a supervisor module and several dot net web pages. |
